Description: The 1954 model year was big for Cadillac, starting with a redesign of the basic Series 62 model. The new Cadillac was lower, sleeker, and featured exhaust tips that exited through upswept bumper extensions. A wraparound windshield completed the flowing good looks of the middle 1950s, before the fin wars took hold. In 1955 the grille was redesigned with wider spaces between the blades and the parking lamps were repositioned beneath directly below the headlights. On the sides of the body the rub-rail moldings formed a right angle with the vertical trim on the rear doors or fenders. This accentuated the character line in the sheet metal. Three chrome moldings bordered the rear license plate on either side and deck lid decorations consisted of a V-shaped ornament and a Cadillac crest. The Coupe de Ville had a golden script nameplate at the upper body belt just forward of the rear window pillar.
This beautifully restored Cadillac Series 62 is a 1955 Coupe De Ville which was specially ordered with the El Dorado 331ci V8 and the dual quad setup. The Cadillac was not delivered until 1956 because of the specialty engine that helped push this Coupe De Ville to 270 horsepower and 345 foot pounds of torque instead of the normal 250 horsepower stock engine. The 331ci V8 under the hood of the Cadillac has been fully rebuilt with new pistons, cam, timing chain and gears and has only 2,500 miles on it after the rebuild. The powerful and smooth engine is connected to a 4 speed Hydramatic automatic transmission which transferred the increased power down the semifloating rear axle to the rear wheels. Other features under the hood include power steering, power brakes, freshly painted dual quad air cleaner as well as the correct glass washer bottle reservoir. The Coupe De Ville is shown in its correct Goddess gold exterior color with the correct black colored roof. This Series 62 has also had all of its chrome bumpers, trim pieces and emblems restored back to factory condition, which makes the paint and interior look even better.
The comfortable and elegant upholstery of the Coupe De Ville has been also fully restored in the correct black V pattern cloth inserts with copper leather arm rests, seat backs and surrounds. The dashboard and headliner have not been touched and are completely original in good condition. The interior features accessory order power lift seats, easy-eye headlight dimmer and a heater as well as power windows, emergency brake warning light, AM radio and dash board clock insert.
While the Eldorado of this era tends to steal collectors’ attention due to their power and luxury features, the Series 62 is an outstanding alternative. Much of the same ownership experience can be achieved, especially when equipped with the optional engine. Enjoy the driveability and attention you get in this Series 62 at any time, any show or any event without having to worry about your post war era investment!
